Instruction: Tell students to take a mindful walk to look for a tree that is particularly beautiful, meaningful, or interesting to them. Remind students of what to look for in their special tree: colours, shapes, smells, textures, sounds, temperatures, communities, and “belly-back” views.
Activity Option 1: Sit down near the tree and draw the tree. Give your tree a name and use five senses to describe what you observe or experience while sitting near the tree.
Activity Option 2: Write a poem to describe your tree. These could be shared in a group if students are comfortable or submitted only to the teacher
Activity Option 3: Students share their thoughts on their experience in a journal using these or other prompts:
What attracted you to your tree?
Does this tree remind you of anything (past moments, places you have been, or things you have read)?
What was challenging about this activity? Why?
What does this tree/poem tell you about yourself or this place?
