Build a Home for Gnomes!

Updated: May 28, 2020

One thing I loved doing in the garden as a kid was building a wee home for an imaginary gnome! This is a very self explanatory activity. However, as an expert gnome home builder, I have some tips that will guarantee the most magical little home.

  1. Build at the base of a tree. I find that building your gnome home off of a tree creates an instant sense of enchantment. It gives you a sturdy start and allows the imagination to wander even more- What does the rest of the tree inside look like?

  2. Absolutely anything can be building material. Don't just stick to sticks! Use leaves, rocks, tree fallings like acorns. Heck! Even a piece of litter can be repurposed with the right imagination. Just be safe and respectful of your neighbours and mother nature.

  3. If you don't have a backyard, next time you're on a walk, find a nice tree on a boulevard. This is the perfect place to build a gnome home that instantly adds a sense of mystery and magic to your community. You might even come back to visit and find a gnome neighbourhood!

  4. Detail and decoration. Gnomes love living in a pretty place, so be sure to add lots of details such as, a garden with flowers, flooring, etc. I also recommend adding a fence around your creation. Not only does this looks adorable but it might protect the property!

Journal Prompt - In your journal, you could write a story about the gnomes; what their names are, how they got there, how they live their day to day and manage to stay hidden from humans!
